confessions, conjectures & coffee.

God 1. Bears 0.

I was slightly unprepared today. I had the worship ready, and the service went according to plan …for the most part.

Normally we’ll sing a song at the end, and as we’re finishing, you can see some of the guys edging closer to the aisle so they can get out before anyone else. “But the Bears are playing! And it’s a 12:00 game!” Personally, I think that’s why God gave us things like Tivo and a DVR. But not everyone has heeded the call of the Lord to record.

So anyway, today there was an alter call and the band played Mighty to Save. Since there were still people down in front for prayer when the song ended, I said that everyone was welcome to stay and worship while our pastors prayed for the ones that came forward, otherwise if they left to please exit quietly.

No one moved.

I was worrying that my microphone wasn’t on. This is the playoffs right? I mean, the biggest complaint I get from guys I invite to a service is that it interferes with the Bears game.

But today God moved. And the people stayed.

And the Bears won, too. So, all in all it was a great day.
