Two Days.

Filed under: My Life, Sports & Outdoor — Isaac @ 5:02 pm

That’s it.

Two. Days.

That’s how long it took for me to get hurt riding my bike to work.

Wednesday evening I was riding in the grass next to the road, barely half a mile from the office when it happened. I looked up and saw a small bump just ahead of me. As I tightened my grip, I realized that the unkempt grass was hiding the true depth of the ‘bump’…

The next thing I remember was my head slamming into the ground and gasping for breath. All of the air had been knocked out of me and I laid on the ground trying to rip my helmet off of my head using suddenly numb fingers and arms. I laid there, sprawled out along a busy road, gathering my thoughts… it seemed like 30 seconds, but when I looked again at my watch it was actually closer to 10 minutes.

The ‘bump’ was actually a 12-inch-wide, 6-inch-deep rut from a truck, leftover from whoever was responsible for the shoddy landscaping job in the lot.

Next week I’m shooting for three accident-free days.

The best part is that we’re getting our pictures taken for Christmas tomorrow (Saturday) and I have a mark across my forehead that looks like I got kicked in the face.

Thank God for Photoshop.

How did you find me? Always curious…

LOVE your graphic design work. Wow. Would love to talk about a redesign for my blog. Your thoughts?

  2. dude… that sucks. it sounds like there was no serious injury, so that’s something to be grateful for… and Photoshop is pretty cool!

  3. Absolutely fantastic!

I’ve been riding my bike to work for about 3 months now and haven’t been dealt any serious injuries (just a couple flat tires). But now, since this happened to you, I’m convinced that my time is coming due. Thanks for thoughts of the Apocalypse!

  4. When I bought my motorcycle, the guy I purchased it from told me…

“There are two types of riders: Those that have wrecked — and those that are going to.”

I think it applies to bicyclists as well.

  5. [...] However, to look on the bright side of life, it could be worse. I could’ve gotten a flat on my van which really would’ve cost me! Oh, and I could’ve made the horrible decision of meeting a pothole first hand and eating pavement like someone I know! [...]
