11DecI Heart Burritos.

“Surely he wouldn’t drive almost an hour just to eat a burrito?”

You obviously haven’t eaten at God’s favorite Mexican restaurant. And you apparently were unaware that a new Chipotle just opened a week ago within a reasonable driving distance.

Yes… Life is good.

Chipotle

Usually when you roll anything this good it’s illegal.

06NovWhat the World Eats.

Similar to the possessions of the world post I made last July, Peter Menzel has a new photography exhibit displaying the eating habits of average families from varying countries and continents.

Originally published in Time Magazine & Marie Claire, his photos have now come full circle by being featured on this very blog!

After all of that, I’m feeling pretty lousy about my last Starbucks run.

04JulPassion Tea Lemonade.

I just found my new summer drink from Starbuck’s:

Tazo Passion Shaken Iced Tea & Lemonade.

It’s weirdly good.

It’s amazing how something so well tuned can get so un-wound in a short time. Okay, maybe ’so well tuned’ is over shooting it a bit, but it was only a little over a year ago that I was running six miles a day easily. Now I’m lucky to finish a couple miles a week.

Last summer, I got this watch that tracks workouts, splits and time/dates. Confession time: My last run was on September 27th. The records on my watch confirmed it …not good. On a positive note, it motivated me to get back out there. This week I logged around 7 or 8 miles. Not exactly bragging rights, but not bad for my first week back.

I’m also setting a new running/health goal for myself. I complain to my wife every once in a while about not liking the way I look, but I do it to myself. I like to eat good food — pizza, ribs, burgers, pasta… So switching my diet to what amounts to tofu-and-lettuce has been a tough concept for me to wrap my head around. In light of that, I’ve decided that the only real solution for me is to become an extremely focused runner, the type that goes out running obsessively every day and needs to consume at least 5,000+ calories just to replenish himself.

It’s not likely, but that’s my twisted way of rationalizing a poor diet.

So, back to my goal: I’m training to run a a half-marathon this Spring (13.1 mi). Then, I’m hoping to run a full marathon next fall (26.2 mi). I was almost there once. I think I can get there again.

20Octbreakfast.

Taking some cues from other worship leaders that make their women some breakfast, I decided to be a gentleman to my beautiful bride this morning.

She gets up around 5:00 (that’s 5 in the a.m.) to get ready for work, and even though I really honestly try to get up by at least 5:30 to spend some time with her each morning, it’s usually in a sleepy, groggy daze.

Can you blame me? Seriously… I don’t hit the office until 9:00. That’s nearly four hours of drinking coffee, reading blogs, drinking coffee, checking myspace, drinking coffee, reading blogs and… you get the point. Being the great wife she is, she’s put up with seeing the ‘tired & disheveled’ look each morning for quite a while now, so I figured it was about time for a change. Today she got to see the ‘tired & disheveled’ morning look — but while eating french toast!

I don’t mean to boast but I make a mean breakfast. And when I say mean, I am saying out-of-this-world good. Pancakes. Eggs. Bacon. Omelette’s. Sausage. and of course French Toast… you name it. I married one lucky woman. …okay, reverse that.
