Should we plant churches or video campuses?

Prior to watching this conversation betwen Mark Dever (Capitol Hill Baptist Church, Washington), James MacDonald (Harvest Bible Chapel, Chicago) & Mark Driscoll (Mars Hill Church, Seattle), I was definitely against the idea of video campuses. It always seemed arrogant to put one pastor in so many places rather than actually doing the work to raise up new leaders and planting “real churches.”

In this video, MacDonald & Driscoll give a very clear explanation about how effective video venues really can be in planting strong churches and raising up Godly men to lead them. More importantly, they clarify some Biblical convictions that undergird their efforts to plant more churches this way.

I’m cautiously saying that I’m “no longer opposed” to video venues… cautiously because the focus discussed in the video just hasn’t been communicated effectively. People (like myself) still see the pastor on screen without any explanation, and people end up with the assumption that arrogance is behind the video screen, not mission.
