"The whole idea of motivation is a trap. Forget motivation. Just do it. Exercise, lose weight, test your blood sugar, or whatever. Do it without motivation. And then, guess what? After you start doing the thing, that’s when the motivation comes and makes it easy for you to keep on doing it."

Goals… resolutions… or whatever the kids are calling it these days.

It’s a whole new year in these parts. And with a new year comes the obligatory aspirations of grandeur that are the “New Year’s Resolutions”.

Here are my top five areas of focus for twenty-ten:

    1. Spiritual | Read the Bible through in one year, spending a daily time reading the Word and praying, and a weekly time praying with Rachel.
    2. Physical | The obligatory “lose weight” goal: eat healthy and exercise regularly. I had my lean body mass checked a while back, and it was 176 lbs (meaning, if I was at near-zero body fat, that’s how much I’d weigh). Needless to say, I have some pounds to lose to get there.
    3. Relational | Romance my wife: flowers, cards, gifts, weekend getaway, weekly dates, writing love songs to her…
    4. Financial | The other obligatory resolution. Save more, spend less & become debt-free.
    5. Personal | Grow in my skill sets: practice guitar more regularly & set aside a creative hour once a week to write/record music.
